Maybelline: Falsche Wimpern Feder-Look Volum’ Express Mascara

For those of you who were wondering that translates to “False Lash Feather Look Volume Express Mascara.”  This is a product available in Germany but it is the equivalent of the Maybelline Volum’ Express The Mega Plush Mascara that is available in the US and Canada.  For the some reason Maybelline felt the need to change the name and packaging.  However, the actual mascara and the new flexible brush in both sound as though they are identical from the product descriptions.

Availability:  I purchased mine at my local DM Drogerie but I know that Müller also has this available.  Edeka and Real stores also carry Maybelline products here in Germany.  As I mentioned at the beginning of my post this is the same product as the Volum’ Express The Mega Plush Mascara in the US and Canada.  It can be found in the US at Ulta, Target, Walmart, CVS.  In Canada I think you would be able to find this at Shoppers, Walmart, and Loblaws since they all carry Maybelline products.  Unfortunately this particular mascara doesn’t appear to be available in the UK (I checked the Maybelline UK site as well as the Boots site), but please correct me if I’m wrong.

What I liked:  The brush is nice and I quite prefer it to the rubber one that was in my old CG Lash Blast mascara that this replaced (you would all be horrified to know how old that sucker was before I tossed it and replaced it).  This brush allowed me to get more separation which resulted, in my opinion, a much more natural look.  Sorry but I am not a fan of tarantula lashes ladies.  I’m sure that if you like that kind of thing, that you could certainly build this up using multiple coats to achieve that look.  I also liked the fact that although this stayed on and didn’t smudge that it was still easy to remove.

What I didn’t like:  My one complaint is that I experienced a bit of clumping.  Perhaps that can just be chalked up to the fact that I rarely use mascara and I’m probably just rubbish at applying it.

My two cents:  So far I’m loving this mascara to be honest, even in spite of the little bit of clumping I experienced.  I had previously tried three other mascaras in the past and didn’t care for any of them with the exception of my ancient CG Lash Blast and this is infinitely better.  The bristles on this brush are just amazing, although I don’t know how I feel about the allegedly flexible wand.  I mean I get the idea behind it, but I’ve not noticed any benefit to it personally but then again I don’t think it’s really all the flexible.  Maybe I got a defective one?  One other thing that I feel is worth mentioning is the fact that after wearing this for most of the day, I did experience a little flaking.  Nothing that I would consider a major problem or that would cause me to discontinue use or not repurchase in all honesty though.

Tips:  Hmm…be careful and try not to poke yourself in the eye during application.

I apologize ahead of time, but I am feeling the need to gripe about the fact that Maybelline has yet again changed a product’s name and packaging for the European market.  I first noticed that they did this when the Color Tattoo Eyeshadows were released here.  Perhaps it seems like a silly little detail to some but I personally find it annoying and totally unnecessary.  After living in three different countries now and slowly traveling my way around Europe, I rather like a little continuity in the beauty department, at least where global brands like Maybelline are concerned.

So glad I got that out of my system!  Anyhow, I am sorry for my little nail polish hiatus recently.  I’ve not been painting my nails in order to give them a bit of a break, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of an order I placed for a few items from Feel Unique, among them Nails Inc. Sweets Way from their Special Effects Sprinkles collection.  If it doesn’t arrive today, I can assure you that Feel Unique will be receiving an e-mail from yours truly.

In other news, the Captain and I will be heading down to Munich again this weekend, but this time for Oktoberfest.  We’re quite looking forward to Oktoberfest and so long as the weather cooperates, a little bicycle action as well.  So keep an eye for that next week.  In the meantime be sure to check out my Catrice Cosmetics giveaway.  As always, thanks for reading and check back soon.
