It’s been a rough few weeks for this girls fingernails. Not only did I suffer a break down low on the side of one of my fingernails that resulted in a rather unsightly odd shaped nail with the corner filed down early last week. Then after spending so much time filing and shaping my nails last night after removing my polish I somehow managed to slice a thin layer off the tip of one of my nails as well. I contemplated buffing it and leaving it until it grew out and then it got caught on a washcloth and disaster struck. So yeah, now I’m left with an index fingernail filed down to virtually nothing, and call me vain if you will, but I’m a tad miffed over it. I had planned on painting my nails today in order to share some more color swatches with you but alas, fate had other plans. Now I’m way to bummed and self conscious about the hideousness that is my left index finger. Woe is me.
I am hoping to get back to my polish stash as soon as I’m done sulking. Until then, can anyone suggest some things for me to try to strengthen my nails? My fingernails are notoriously soft and I feel as though they break far too easily. I’ve recently started taking a hair and nail supplement, but I’ve not been taking it long enough to notice a difference just yet. Some things I already do to keep my nails healthy are to use glass files, gently push my cuticles back and coat them regularly with my Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme. I only use “3 free” polish, for those of you who don’t already know, “3 free” is short for three harmful ingredients, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene and formaldehyde, that were once commonly used in nail polish. Thankfully a lot of companies have already jumped on the “3 free” bandwagon. Nor do I ever use acetone on my nails, so I’m always trying different non-acetone removers (which I plan to do a post about one of these days).
I will post a review/swatch of one of the Essie Mirror Metallics from last week during my nail polish hiatus soon so keep an eye for that. As always, thank you so much for reading and an extra big thanks to those of you who decided to take a chance on a new blogger and join my few but beloved followers. Be sure to check back soon.
