Essie “Mint Candy Apple”

“Mint Candy Apple”

Lately I’ve been on a kind of pastel kick.  It seems that pastels are the colors of the spring season this year and at first I wasn’t too excited about the trend.  Then I saw Essie “Navigate Her,” which I snatched up the first chance I got, and it seems ever since then I been gravitating toward lighter shades of blues & greens.  When I

stumbled across “Mint Candy Apple” I thought it might be a nice addition to my ever expanding collection.

I had originally expected “Mint Candy Apple” to be more of a true mint green which is why I bought it in the first place.  However, I think it’s actually more on the teal side and ended up looking like a lighter version of China Glaze “For Audrey” or another Essie shade called “Turquoise & Caicos.”  Don’t get me wrong, I do like “Mint Candy Apple,” it just wasn’t exactly what I had expected and in all sincerity I probably would not have purchased it had I known how similar it was to “For Audrey,” which I already had.  I really try to only pick up nail polish colors that I do not already have something similar to, otherwise my collecting would spin out of control and I would definitely end up in a documentary about hoarders.

I felt as though “Mint Candy Apple” had a slightly thicker formula than other Essie polishes I own and didn’t glide on quite as smoothly.  I think you really could achieve good coverage and opacity with two coats, but I personally like to do three thinner coats.  I only wore this for four days but in that time I found that it wore nicely and I didn’t experience any chipping.  On the last day I thought it needed a little something so I added a few coats of Nicole by OPI “Rainbow In The S-Kylie” (it’s from the Kardashian collection), which is jam packed with rainbow glitter of varying sizes to my ring fingers.

If you’re looking for a light pastel shade of teal then I would definitely give Essie “Mint Candy Apple” a try.  It really is beautiful color and would be great on your fingers or toes this spring and on into the summer.  Just be sure to start with a good base coat and finish with a durable top coat to ensure maximum wear time.
