For those of you who don’t know, I love nail polish and I have a constantly growing collection of it, mostly thanks to my very lovely friend (enabler/supplier) from Chicagoland. I have so many in fact that I’ve not even used all of them just yet which no doubt makes the fact that I still acquire more on the regular a bit bonkers to some of you. However, in my defense, aside from books for my Kindle, it’s the only thing I really shop for. Anyhoo, a few weeks ago I purchased Essie “Lapis Of Luxury.” I picked this up at DM for about €7.25 (it’s cheaper here than on Amazon) and in the States you can find Essie nail polish at Ulta, Target, Wal-Mart & Walgreens for $7.75-$8 a bottle.
First of all, I feel that I have to share with you just how much I love Essie products. I know they are on the pricey side but they really do make a quality product. Their formula is gentle and is “3 Free,” which is short for the three toxic chemicals, toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and formaldehyde, which were once commonly found in nail polish (sadly some companies still aren’t 3 Free so be sure to check the bottles you have ladies). I for one, will only use products that are 3 Free. So I feel that you are at least getting what you pay for and let’s face it, one bottle will last you for quite a long time.
Now back to “Lapis Of Luxury.” I kept running across swatches of this over the past few months. A few weeks ago while in DM I picked it up on a whim and I’m so glad that I did. I typically go for darker colors so this was a little different for me. As you can see in the pictures above, this is such a lovely shade of periwinkle. I think it’s perfect for spring and summer, although I will probably wear this year round as it’s one of my favorites now. The formula was great to apply and went on super smoothly and easily with no clean up. I think the clean and easy application is in part thanks to the new wide brush included in the bottles of Essie that I’ve purchased from DM though, which I’m not sure when or if Essie will be introducing this wide brush to North America or not. “Lapis Of Luxury” wore extremely well. I had it on for a full week before only the smallest chip appeared, which is unheard of for me, granted I always use a good top coat as well (Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat).
I understand that not everyone is going to drop $8 on a bottle of nail polish. However if you really like this color, there are plenty of more budget friendly dupes available. I will always try to include a list of dupes when I do nail polish posts in the future by the way.
- Maybelline Express “Pie In The Sky”
- China Glaze “Secret Perwinkle” & “Electric Beat”
- Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear “Pacific Blue”
- Catrice “Up In The Air”
- Revlon “Dreamer”
- Barry M #306 “Pale Blue”
- Color Club “Blue Light”

Please feel free to comment as I love reading them. I would be interested to see if anyone knows of any other dupes for this color that I may have missed by the way. Happy polishing ladies and as always, thanks for reading!
